Privacy policy
This policy covers southernlocalmedia.com and every local news website and newsletter published by Southern Local Media. Last updated October 2026.
What we collect
- Website use. Our sites use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. IP addresses are anonymized. We do not sell or share this data, and we do not use it for advertising profiles.
- Newsletters. When you sign up we store your email address and the title you chose. We use it to send that newsletter and nothing else. Every email carries an unsubscribe link and our mailing address, as the CAN-SPAM Act requires. Unsubscribing removes your address.
- Tips, comments and submissions. When you email a title we keep the email so we can reply and, where you ask for it, keep your identity confidential.
- Advertisers. Business details and invoices for the work booked. Payments are handled by PayPal or our card processor; we do not store card numbers.
Cookies
Our sites set the Google Analytics cookie and nothing else. We do not use advertising cookies or trackers.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or opt out of any use of it, by emailing hello@southernlocalmedia.com. We answer within 30 days. Residents of states with consumer privacy laws, including Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida, have these rights in law; we apply them to every reader. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that score.
Children
Our sites are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
