Publisher of local news websites for towns across the Southeast

Daily news for the towns we cover, written from the public record and checked by an editor. Free to read, with no paywall.

About us

Southern Local Media publishes local news websites for towns and counties across the Southeastern United States: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Each title covers its own town: city hall and the county commission, schools, police and fire, roads and development, local business, high school sports and things to do. The group launched in 2026 and publishes 120 titles.

We started the group because most towns no longer have a reporter sitting in the council chamber or reading the police log. Our titles are run from one newsroom, with an editor responsible for every site, and with readers, community groups and local businesses supplying stories, photographs and corrections. Every title is free to read and carries no paywall.

What we publish

How we work

Stories are drafted with the help of automated tools from public records and official releases, and checked by an editor before publication. We name the agency or person a fact comes from and link to it. We do not invent reporters or use stock portraits. Corrections are made promptly and marked on the article. Readers, contributors and businesses can reach every title through its own contact page, and the group through the contact page.

The group is independent and privately owned. It has no connection to any political party, campaign or public body.
